Silverlake Animal Sanctuary was founded by Mrs Winifred Skiff

It is with great sadness that we have to announce the recent passing of Winifred Skiff . Please contact Rose on 02380 559552 if you require further details.

About Winifred Skiff

In August 1975, Win and her husband Roy moved from their Titchfield home to Silverlake in Droxford to allow them the space to keep their increasing number of animals.

Win has dedicated her life to the welfare of animals and it is entirely due to Win that so many of these animals past and present owe their lives. Despite being blind herself and suffering poor health for many years she still managed the day to day running of the sanctuary until at the age of 84, when she succumbed to an illness that made living at home untenable. Even though Win is now residing in a care home, her first question is always "how are my animals" and she insists on hearing every detail of their lives.

Her biggest regret is that she has been forced to give up her beloved dog Honey who has now gone to live with Clive and Pam, who so generously have given her a home and take her to see Win every 2 weeks which delights her and everyone at the home.

Honey

She is a well known figure in rescue and was working when there were fewer rescues and was known for taking in the waifs and strays. She is held in high esteem for the past work she has done by many other rescues.

When the time came for the animals of Silverlake to be relocated there were cats,  2 turkeys, chickens, Gretel the goat and of course Blind Beauty.  Here is an update on where they are now.

Gretel

Gretel has kindly been taken in by Rainbow Sanctuary in Shaftesbury.

Turkeys - Esmerelda and cassidy

The two turkeys and chickens are currently residing at Second Chance Animal Rescue.

Cats

Some cats from Silverlake were moved to Second Chance Animal Rescue, who have now successfully relocated many of them into new homes.

Despite relocation, Most of these animals, including beauty, still require funding.
