Silverlake
Beauty updates since her relocation
Since Beautys move on the 14th March she has gone from
strength to strength. The day she moved was a stressful one for all
concerned, not only as no one knew how she would load and cope with the
journey but also how she would settle in new surroundings.
We need not have worried as Beauty walked into the
trailer as if she did this kind of thing everyday! She travelled for 45mins
with no problems. The first few days she was a bit fussy about her food but
since then she has not looked back and the most important thing in her life
is her food! She has started to put on weight and now spends her days
grazing in her new paddock and her nights in her stable. Unlike at
Silverlake where she had not had the company of other equines for a while, in
her new home she is surrounded in adjoining paddocks by other horses and
donkeys. In a neighboring property there is a stallion and he is the only
horse that she will call back to!
She is a truly amazing pony, one that seems to have
a trust in people that you have to admire. She will be guided in from her
paddock and has no hesitation that she is safe in your hands. She does
suffer from a few grumpy moments but she is entitled at her age. Beauty
knows exactly what she wants in life and its this drive that is probably the
reason why she has coped so well. She may be blind, have few teeth and a
spot of attitude but we hope she will continue to flourish in her new
surroundings and enjoy however long she has left.
August 2007
Its nearly 5 months since Beauty moved and she
continues to flourish. She has gained more weight and is enjoying the summer
sunshine. We hope to have some more photos soon to update her site with.
February 2008
Beauty has kept in good condition over the winter
and continues to demonstrate her determination. She went through a bad spell
in later 2007 and early 2008 where she was a bit stiffer and did not enjoy
the wet weather. She has had a check up from the vet and appears to now be
doing well again. She is very pleased to have some early spring sunshine and
has enjoyed a spot of sunbathing which is her second favorite pastime,
nothing could be more important than eating!
Feb 2008 - It is with great sadness that we have
to announce the passing of Winifred Skiff, the founder of Silverlake Animal
Sanctuary.
April 2008- It is with great sadness that we
have to write that Beauty the blind mare who was in approximately her 37th
year was put to sleep after a short spell of illness on Thursday April 10th.
Her great character and determination will be greatly missed and we would
like to thank all those that cared for her throughout her long life. We
would also like to thank Stable Close Equine practice for there care of her.
